We just ended a six week session over the Tough Sayings of Jesus (Part I). While we sometimes came to different conclusions than the lifeway product, it has been a very fruitful month and a half. We covered the following topics:
- The Rich Young Ruler (Mark 10:20-26)
- Jesus and Racism (Matthew 15:24-27)
- The Unpardonable Sin (Matthew 12:30-31)
- I came not to bring peace, but a sword. (Matthew 12 / Luke 12:49-53)
I really liked how the series opened and closed. It began with a lesson on how we must serve Jesus instead of money, which is perhaps our greatest problem today, and ended with a wonderful little reorientation of our lives and identify towards Christ. Conflict is not a bad thing, but necessary to usher in the victory that Jesus won on the cross. We Christians are first citizens of the kingdom of God and mother, husbands, fathers, wives, sisters, and brothers second. These are tough but true things to swallow.
