The Jesus we meet in the Gospel of John is the very creative force of God become flesh – the true Tabernacle where Heaven and Earth meet. His mission is to redeem the true children of God (who come from every tribe and nation, not just Israel) and to rescue creation from Sin and Death. He gives us signs that point to who he really is and expresses truths about himself in metaphors as he teaches.
Just as he created the universe in seven days, so he gives us seven signs that point to his true character – the final sign being his death and resurrection. As followers of John’s Jesus, we are to demonstrate to one another and the world the same sacrificial love Jesus showed us.
